My books for Jan and Feb

I made a goal to read a book every month, they started out being the older ones that I have always wanted to read, but haven't gotten a chance to.
Jan's was The Man in the Iron Mask.  I have to admit that it was hard for me to read. I ended up going to the library and getting a book on CD and listening to it that way.  Made it so much easier.  I have read the Counte of Monte Cristo by the same author and really enjoyed it, but this one just seemed to drag with all the little details that really had nothing to do with the story.
Feb's book was Friday Night Knitting Club.  My mom handed it to me right before I came back to Japan from Home in Nov.  I finally sat down and read it and loved it.  It's about a very ecletic group of woman who start knitting together every week and how they become friends.  It is a very touching book and I enjoyed learning a little bit more "knitting Lingo" considering I am starting to learn myself.

For March is going to be the Secret Garden, I have started already, but so far so good.  Now if my kids would just let me read a little. :)

Family Sign

I made this the other night.  It was actually a really quick project and turned out really nice.
I bought a canvas, you can get whatever size you want, depending on what you want to do.
I cut out the letters with my cricut and then mog poged them onto the canvas with regular elmer's glue. (works the same as the mog pog, but less expensive)

I love it!!  I am planning on making one that says Families on it next and putting pics of my kiddos around it.

100th day of School Project

We found out the day before the my 1st grader had a project to do for 100 days of school.  His teacher thought he had sent out the info and he hadn't. Opps!  Thank Goodness for pictures.  We decided to make a book with 100 picutres of him.  I figured it would work for the project and then he could keep it for later.  It was a big hit.

Fun Pictures

I found this one and loved it!!!  I want to make some fun signs to go around my house with cute little sayings like this.  This one would fit perfectly in my girls room.  They love to dance.
I just love this one.   There are so many others to chose from.  What to make what to make.
Today I did have a craft class here at my house and we made the calendar boards.  They all turned out super cute and I can't wait to make some more.  I should have taken pictures of how they all turned out, each one totally unique from the other.

A few Boards

I am starting a craft class every month.  This month we are making the calendar board that I showed a picture of in an earlier post.  I went into the wood shop here on base and asked to hae 20 boards cut.  The older gentleman that was working told me that it would be easier and cheaper to just get the entire board cut.  I am thinking that there are only going to be a few extra than my 20.  Boy was I wrong.  I ended up with double of what I wanted.  Oh well, guess that means more project opportunites for me.  Anyone have good ideas for my boards?

Mini Bagel Treats!

Our grocery store has these mini bagels, I usually wait until they are on sale for cheaper the day after they are made.  My kids love making treats out of them.
One way is to cut them in half, butter them, put them in the oven for a few minutes and then sprinkle with cinnamon toast.
A great after school snack is to cut them in half, put a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on them, I warms the up for about 5 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees.
They gobble them down.  If we have left overs they are perfect for breakfast!!
Enjoy!!

Making Dolls

I have a book that I got from my great Aunt, it is from 1977 and has some really fun little dolls in it that I want to make.  My plan is to make some for the nieces and nephews for their birthdays, well at least the ones that are young enough for them. I don't think my nephew who will be turning 12 this year would appreicate a stuffed animal.  -- I have been looking online to see if I can find any fun books or patterns, thinking hard of what I need in case I need to order it and have it shipped here to me. (major disadvantage to living here, you really have to plan ahead when you have a project, you can't find all the stuff you want around the corner at Micheal's, JoAnn's or Walmart).    I find myself going to the thrift shop and when I do find stuff, squirreling it away for later projects.  At least my craft closet it stocked of randmon stuff I might need.
I thought this page was really neat, showing how to make your own doll hair. I always wondered how my grandma did it when making dolls.

I have had so many ideas running through my head on stuff to make and do, it has been crazy.  Of course getting sick kind of put a damper on my plans of being crafty and getting somethings done.  I do have a few projects in mind that I am excited about, I think that they will turn out really cute.
