Only in Okinawa!!

Only In Okinawa will you find some intersting cars like the USS Enterprise.

Star Trek symbols everywhere.
Or can you find huge lizzards on a random building.
Or find such simple beauty???

Book Swapping Fun!!

Last month I held a book swap here at the house.  What you see on the table is just what I had here, some from a previous swap, mostly from my stash that i am tryin to dwindle down.   The thought behind these book swaps is that once I read a book I am usually done with it and wouldn't it be much cheaper to swap books with someone else, not having to go buy something new. Granted I usually go to the thrift shop here on base and buy them for very cheap, but this is also a fun way to meet new people.   After the swap was over, I boxed up the rest that were left and donated them to one of the middle schools here on base, they were doing a book drive so that they could have a fundraiser later on (a book sale).  Helped me out, I was able to let those who wanted to come and get new books do so, was able to get books out of the house that I don't need and was able to help out a local school. YES!!!!  So if you love to read, maybe think about putting together a bookswap with some family and friends and see what you can save just from this little act. ( we also have a group on FB for when we don't have a swap going, if someone finishes a book and wants to get rid of it, we post it and the first person who asks for it gets it, we also have lists of ebooks that people can share or post free kindle/ebooks for others to know about)

My cat of course had to help me, I swear everytime I have a box or open container I find him in it. He cracks me up.

A few more books and a movie. :)

My friend told me about this book, the movie was getting ready to come out and she wanted me to read it.  I didn't finish it before I saw the movie, but that's o.k., I still enjoyed it, and I think I liked the ending better in the book.  Funny, and you can relate with the main character, very good read.
I went to see the movie the other night with a friend, it was very cute and I enjoyed it, even if parts of it strayed from the book.  I liked the characters, even if they weren't what  I would have imagined them to look like.  Can't wait to see it again.
I read the Girl With The Dragon Tatoo.  It was intense and really good, kept me on my toes the entire time.  There is some cussing in it and adult themes, I wouldn't want my son reading it at this point.  I actually can't wait to see the new movie about it and can't wait to read the other books in the series.

Cherry Blossoms in Okinawa

Every year in Okinawa the Cherry Blossoms or Sakuran bloom.  They have a festival to celebrate it (they love to have festivals here).  Today we headed out to go to the festival, we didn't make it all of the way, but we did find some blooms to take pics of.  (there aren't that many in bloom right now, which is kind of weird)  We decided to take a little hike, on  it I saw this spider web, Hazel decided to set this flower right next to it and it turned out to be a beautiful shot.

I thought that the contrast between the evergreen tree and the Cherry blossoms would be beautiful, the blue sky makes them pop as well.

I love that even on the same tree the colors can be so very different.

I like this one, even though the flowers are a bit blurry  and the background is what is in focus.

RIght NExt Door by Debbie Macomber

Another good read of Debbie Macomber books. I enjoyed reading this one for free through our library and their free kindle book borrowing program.  Go and see if you library has the same program, well worth it!!

IN a Crafting Funk!!!

The past few weeks I have been wanting to Craft and do something, but unfortunetaly with sick kids and sick me it hasn't happened.  I have been downsizing. ( the houses here are pretty small, I can't complain though, I have heard of even smaller places off base) working on getting ready for parties (Pampered Chef one, and next a book swap here at the house)  I am finally feeling better, going to try and tackle the craziness that is my craft closet tomorrow.  Let's see what fun stuff I can find to work on in there. Perhaps finish a quilt I started awhile ago?????
